Recent Project: Avita Memory Care Center

Avita Memory Care Center

Working with Waypoint Construction Consultants, UBLA was consulted to develop a detailed set of landscape plans for the Avita Memory Care Center: a 49,000 square foot, 66 unit dementia care facility located in Needham, MA.  The design included 4 distinctly different garden spaces for the unique needs of residents and families.
Zen Garden
One of two interior courtyard spaces, the Zen Garden is an organically looped walkway with several seating areas.  A dry river bed winds through the space, with large boulder placements throughout.  Plantings consist of specimen trees for shade,  lush textured groundcovers and ornamental grasses.
Formal Garden

The Formal Garden is a structured courtyard space organized around a central water feature and shielded from the drop off / entry by a cedar fence seated atop a low stone wall.  Ample Boxwood hedging, seating areas, a pergola for shade, and colorful rectilinear beds are some of the design features of this garden space.
Birdhouse Garden
This garden is the second of two interior courtyard spaces.  Designed with an organic looped walk and seating areas, this natural garden features wood structures for birds and extensive plantings for attracting both birds and butterflies.
Cottage Garden

The Cottage Garden is a courtyard space for both seating and growing of herbs and vegetables.  A semi-circular cedar pergola and small ornamental trees offer shade, and raised urns and wooden beanpole structures offer accessible areas for residents to tend the garden.
